My boyfriend made me dump prostitution for armed robbery–Suspect

Bakare (middle) with other members of the gang
Bakare (middle) with other members of the gang

Twenty-four-year-old Sherifat Bakare, is a young lady one could describe at first glance as pretty. But as she sat on the ground in front of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Ogun State Police Command in Abeokuta, one cannot but imagine how deadly she might have been on operations with her robbery gang.
“I was hustling before Raji, my boyfriend, told me to join his gang,” Bakare began.
But when she was asked to elaborate on what she did as a “hustler,” she explained that she meant prostitution.
Bakare in company with four other members of her gang, were apprehended on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 by the men of Ogun State SARS, who had been on their trail after receiving a tip-off about the gang’s plan.
It all began a few weeks ago, Bakare narrated. She said another member of the gang, Bola Onasile, (also in SARS custody) had approached her boyfriend about the availability of N70m in a wealthy man’s house in Joju area of Sango, Ogun State.
“I have only gone on two operations with them. I don’t know him (Onasile) well. I only know that he was the one who brought the job.
“Raji gathered other members and they snatched a vehicle (a Nissan Quest) around Iwo Road, Ibadan. We decided that the vehicle would be used for the operation.
“The gang asked me to sit in the front of the vehicle so that when we were stopped by policemen on the way, being a woman in the front seat would make them unsuspicious. But during the operation, the police cornered us and Raji was shot dead.”
Bakare did not betray any emotions as she narrated how the operation went.
Asked if she smoked Indian hemp like other members of her gang, she said, “I have never tasted it, I only smoke cigarette.”
But when our correspondent asked about her parents, tears streamed down her face.
“I am from Idofian in Kwara State. My father is late but my mother lives in Ibadan. She has no idea I do this kind of job and she does not even know I am in police custody.”
Bakare explained that she was a prostitute in Lekki where she was making up to N5,000 per day until about two years ago.
“I was living with a security guard in a house at Osborne in Ikoyi. The landlord of the house was out of the country. I was going from there to ‘hustle’ in Lekki every night.
“Raji was a good helper to me. That was why I decided to leave prostitution when he begged me. When he introduced me to armed robbery, I asked him if there would be no problem and he assured me that there would be none. When we started dating, I did not know he was an armed robber though.”
Asked how much she was promised out of the N70m they were going to steal, Bakare said whatever went to her late boyfriend would have accrued to her as well.
The young lady said she learnt photography when she dropped out of secondary school but had not been able to practise the trade because she did not think she could make much money from it.
During Saturday Punch’s visit to the SARS office in Abeokuta, 36-year-old Onasile, who brought the N70m job, was evasive when our correspondent asked him how he knew about the money.
He later said that an acquaintance of his, a man named Tunde, informed him about the money.
Onasile said, “Tunde is like a brother to me. He told me the man we were going to rob was his relation. He said the man had N70m at home. I told him I had no boys who could do the job. But he was always disturbing me about getting a gang together to do the operation.
“Few days later, I informed Raji about the operation and he told me he could get boys for the job. We planned to sell the vehicle we snatched after the operation but we did not know how police got to know about the operation. Tunde ran away when the police were after us.”
Onasile said he was a revenue collector for a local government council in Lagos before he lost the job when a new chairman weeded out excess employees from the council.
According to him, he got a job as a site thug getting assignments from land grabbers once in a while but the money was not coming as needed.
Meanwhile, a gang of robbers, who specialised in snatching motorcycles have been apprehended by the SARS in Ogun State after an under cover operation.
Paraded alongside the suspects were the receipts, which they told the police that they issued to buyers of the motorcycles they snatched from their victims.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, said he believed that more members of Bakare’s robbery gang were still out on the streets. He said investigation was still ongoing to ensure that they did not escape justice.
He said, “We are on their trails. But we can assure the public that wherever they are, we will hunt them down and apprehend them.
“In the case of the gang who specialised in snatching motorcycles, our men were able to track them down after we got a tip-off that one of them wanted to purchase a gun.
“One of our SARS operatives who posed as a potential seller told him the pistol was N250,000 but the gang member said he could only afford N150,000.
“Criminals should understand that it is not a joke when the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye, says that crime would not be tolerated in any part of the state. We mean it and will track down any criminal that ventures into this state.”
The wives of the gang members were also arrested because they admitted that they knew their husbands were robbers.
Adejobi said the suspects would be charged to court as soon as possible.

The Key To A Lasting Relationship In Business And In Marriage

Billionaire entrepreneur Richard Branson once said, “Lash praise on people and people will flourish; criticize and they shrivel up.” Branson may have discovered the secret to successful relationships in both business and in life.
Asked why they quit their jobs and many employees – up to 79 percent in one study—cite a lack of appreciation. The same reason is often given when a spouse decides to end a marriage. A recent Wall Street Journal article featured marriage and family experts who said, “A common cause of divorce is the feeling of being unappreciated by one’s spouse…it is essential to show appreciation to your spouse regularly, as in every day.”

Appreciation, praise, and recognition hold relationships together. The business compact is a relationship and most employees want the same feeling they get from a supportive spouse—they want to be shown appreciation. They want to be “celebrated every day.” I’m constantly amazed at how many bosses fail to utilize one of the most powerful retention and engagement tools at their disposal and that’s praise. I’ve yet to meet an employee who says they get up
Monday morning because their company offers free snacks in the vending machine or a discount on gym memberships. However, I do get an earful from employees who are thinking about leaving or actively looking for a new job because they fail to receive simple recognition.
For example, a friend recently attended her company’s “President’s club” trip as a reward for the company’s top salespeople. My friend has been the number one salesperson at this particular company for several years in a row. She loves her work. She loves the product. She takes pride in her accomplishments. She’s also actively talking to recruiters despite the fact that salary and bonuses add up to the mid six-figures. She’s willing to take a pay cut to leave. Why? She feels as though she’s never recognized publicly for her accomplishments. Her boss has never sent out a company-wide email nor has he ever said anything to praise her either in a private conversation or at a sales event. Some might suggest that her salary is recognition enough. I’d argue that’s an old-school philosophy. The fact is that regardless of how much people make, most of us want to be singled out and recognized for our accomplishments.
In another recent example my wife and I were having dinner with friends. One of the people in our group works in the health insurance field and, since I was preparing to deliver a keynote to insurance executives, I asked her what she was missing—if anything—from the relationship she has with her superiors. “I’d appreciate more recognition for the role I play,” she immediately answered. “The salespeople bring new accounts through the door, but I retain them. I don’t feel as though my contributions are recognized.”
“In what way would you like to be recognized?” I asked. “Do you want more money?”
“Of course more money would be nice, but even public praise would be huge!”
In both of the examples I’ve cited, the word “public” has come up. Praise is good. Making it public is even better. The Ritz-Carlton hotel chain has institutionalized public praise. Every day at every Ritz-Carlton hotel each department meets for a “line-up,” a 15-minute staff meeting where managers share stories of employees exceeding the expectations of the hotel’s guests. A former president of the Ritz-Carlton chain once told me that the stories serve two purposes. First, the stories are learning opportunities, providing employees specific examples of exceptional customer service. Second, the stories provide a means of publicly praising those employees who provided the service. The Ritz-Carlton has invited me to attend some of these meetings as an observer. In my experience I’ve rarely seen a more enthusiastic, committed, and engaged group of employees. To a person they enjoy the stories and they especially love being recognized in front of their peers.
A study conducted by Wichita State University found that of sixty-five motivating factors in the workplace the top five were “praise related,” yet 81 percent of employees “seldom or never received public praise.” As the economy improves many of your best employees might start looking for new opportunities.
Praise might just be the perk your company or department is missing.

10 signs you’re ready to live together

Are you ready to move in?

Are you ready to live together? Moving in with your guy or girl can be great, but it can be a nightmare. Make sure you don’t ruin your relationship by moving too fast and read these 10 signs that will show you whether you are ready to share your closet space.

Pants on the floor? Not an issue

Imagine this scenario; you come home after an excruciatingly long day at work to find mountains of clothes on your bedroom floor. Do you hit the roof screaming or shrug it off as one-of-those-things? If you still start a shouting match then it might be a sign that you’re not ready to live together. Although no one likes living with a messy person, researchers have found that eight out of 10 people said they cleaned up after their other half. Basically mess is something you are going to have to deal with if you become roomies.

    You go Dutch

The all-time number one breakup issue is money. If you and your guy or girl aren’t dividing things up equally now then you’re going to face some major issues when you live together. Although you don’t need to go halves on every dinner out or movie you see together, make sure that there is a balance and that neither of you are paying way more than the other. Even if you think you’re comfortable with it now, the fact that they’re freeloading or you’re dependent on their cash flow will be problematic when you’re shacked up.

painting moving in 10 signs you're ready to live together

You get lost when you go home

So, you need to change your clothes and check your phone messages. The only problem is you’ve forgotten how to get home. If you’re spending all your time at their house and you haven’t been home in weeks, then it might be time to throw away your house key and settle into coupledom bliss.

Bad day?  You go home to them

Your team lost to their rivals, your boss shouted at you and you got stuck in a two hour traffic jam. So what do you do? Go out for drinks with your friends or go home to your guy or girl and eat takeout in front of trashy TV? One of the biggest signs that you’re ready to live together is when you have had the worst day and you go home to your other half.

You start to dream of weddings

If you’ve started to dream about big white dresses and cutting cakes then it might be a sign that you’re looking to commit. Ask yourself this: do you see yourself with this person in five years time? If you do, then take the plunge and go for it; life is short and love is hard to find. If it doesn’t work out then at least you gave it a go and you now know they’re not your Romeo or Juliet.

    You buy furniture together

You need a new carpet; who do you ask to help you pick one? If you pick your lovely partner then that’s great news. Being able to make decisions together, especially decisions regarding personal taste and money, is crucial if you are going to get along in co-habiting heaven. Just make sure you steer clear of those horrendous his and her towel sets.

You haven’t had a big fight in a while

Living together can be a nightmare. If you have lots of unresolved issues and have personalities that clash then you are always going to be fighting and no one likes sleeping on the couch. If you haven’t had a big fight in a while then it might be a sign that you’re compatible enough to settle. Little fights are common though and the average couple have a whopping 312 arguments a year.

signs you're ready to live together party girls

You don’t worry when they go out

To live together and enjoy it you have to be secure and trust one another. A great test to see whether you’re ready to move in together is to judge how you feel when they go out with their friends to a bar or party. Do you worry and feel anxious? Are you likely to turn up incognito and spy behind a bar stool? If you’re not secure with your guy or girl you’re not ready to take the plunge.

    Your bathroom cabinet has expanded

When you open your bathroom cabinet what do you see? If you’ve got shaving cream, panty liners and nose clippers lodged amidst your usual in-house pharmacy then it might be time to consider getting an extra key cut; they seem to have moved in anyway so why resist the inevitable?

You struggle to sleep on your own

When you finally make it home to your own bed do you relish the chance to stretch out in your bed or do you miss spooning your guy or girl? If you struggle to sleep in your own bed then stop being love-sick and give living together a go. At some point in our lives we all have to take a risk
